With increasing awareness of our environment and the importance of conservation being popular topics of today, the "Green" movement has evolved and flourished. Everyone from large corporations to small families are looking for ways to stay green, and for good reason. The world has only a fixed amount of natural resources, some of which are already depleted. It is important to do all that we can to try to preserve these resources and our environment. Everything we do has an impact on our environment, positive or negative. The good news it that you, as an individual, have the power to control the choices you make and the impact you create. According to the US Census, it is estimated that in the year 2050 the world population will swell to over 33% of what it was in 2000. Only by continuing to find ways to stay green and live efficiently will we leave our children and grandchildren with the quality of life and environment we have today. We must know that living green isn't just about saving the rain forests and preserving the ozone but about living healthier, saving money and improving the overall quality of life. Knowing this, why wouldn’t anyone want to go green?
Going green doesn’t just refer to the products we use but equally as important as to how we live. Recycling is perhaps the single most important thing we can do to help conserve our resources. According to the Go Green Initiative, for every ton of paper recycled, 7,000 gallons of water, 380 gallons of oil and enough electricity to power an average house for six months are saved. Think of this next time you toss out your Sunday paper or you are at the store and have the option to buy recycled products. We dont just have to send our old paper and cans to the recycling yard but we can find uses for things we might otherwise throw away. I wash out old jars and use them to save leftovers in. What other alternative uses for things can you think of? Something as simple as planting a shade tree next to a window or replacing old light bulbs with new energy efficient bulbs can lower the electric bill. Any other ideas for things we can do inside or outside the home? If we can all share just a few ideas of how we can stay green then we will all bennefit and this blog will be a success.
Remember, the time to act is now. I imagine most people are aware by now of the importance of living green. If we all can convince just one person to act we will see only a brighter future ahead. Lead by example. Letting your neighbors, friends and family see you making the effort will make their decision to act an easier one. Live green, Live Well.
